Barcelona

We recently visited Barcelona for the first time since my coeliac diagnosis and we absolutely loved it! We’ve travelled to quite a lot of Spain in recent years and had some really positive experiences regarding the understanding and approach to coeliac (we’ll be sharing details of other destinations soon), so we had high hopes for Barcelona.

Even with high expectations, Barcelona still managed to exceed them and we had some of the best gluten free dining experiences we’ve ever had in this city!

Restaurants

My F*cking Restaurant
Carrer Nou de la Rambla, 08001 – near Palau Güell
My F*cking Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant in the city centre inspired by both Italian and Catalan cuisines and is honestly one of the best gluten free dining experiences we’ve ever had! They offer two tasting menus as well as a la carte options. We chose a mix of options from the two tasting menus and we loved everything we tried! This was truly a special experience and we’d highly recommend visiting if you’re in Barcelona!

Restaurant En Ville
Carrer del Doctor Dou, 08001 – near Plaça de Catalunya
Restaurant En Ville is a lovely tapas restaurant serving a huge selection of
traditional Spanish food and it’s all 100% gluten free. We ordered a number of small plates to share and absolutely loved everything we tried. Our favourites were the fried egg with straw potatoes and chistorra and the Iberian ham croquettes, but it was honestly all so good! This was the first restaurant we visited in Barcelona and it was great to start our trip with such good traditional Spanish food!

Bakeries

Chök
Various locations across Barcelona
Chok is a 100% gluten free bakery and dessert shop serving a range of sweet treats like cakes, pastries and cookies, right in the heart of Barcelona. We visited here twice on our trip and had cheesecake both times as it was honestly some of
the best cheesecake we’ve ever eaten! I also bought some cookies to take away to snack on during my day-long tour the following day; they were so good and were the perfect snack for fitting around our busy itinerary!

Hanai
Carrer dels Carders, 08003 – near the Picasso Museum
Hanai is 100% gluten free and vegan serving a huge selection of sweet and savoury treats in central Barcelona. It was so good to be able to try a local speciality; the empanada, though my f
avourite had to be the lemon and meringue tart. We’d definitely recommend visiting Hanai bakery if you’re in Barcelona!
